In 07 I put together this local skate krew. I had some of the hardest lil dudes rocking my boards. When I met Garibay for the first time it was crazy, he's a live wire. Homie Lopez told me Vic was good but had no sponsors back then. So we went all over LA and I remember Vic skating different from the other guys. He wasn't into killing himself doing bigO handrails or tecky-azz tricks. I noticed he was around a bunch of graffiti krews and had such an add back then. He was going to that school off Lincoln with the mini ramp. The ramp is cool but that school's a joke. He would make up all these lies, anything to get out and go skate. No one could stop him not even his mom. He convinced me and Lopez to get this apt. Lil did I know Vic was a party animal. But he stays productive and steps up everyday. Even now I see him pushing more of my shop boards to these kids harder then I do. Garibay is that kid who won't go to hard at the park or at any contest but his skating is so far from the norm. Even the homies he's gown up skating with trip out on his speed, pop, and style. The dude is amazing! He's skating the new shit that dudes aint even on. I wish him the best and wanna thank him for keeping me MOTIVATED.

You live at a house called The Trap. Whats the story behind that?
haha The TRAP, everyone loves it. Were else would you have naked girls drinking in your kitchen walking around the house cooking for a bunch of skaters? Its awesome. But the main reason its called The Trap is because if you ever come out to Southgate and chill here your not gonna wanna leave. Your trapped, its too comfortable here.

How are the ladies around your area, do any ever fall into The Trap?
'the ladies.' Gotta love the ladies out here and the ladies love us specially because were the only skaters out here shredding 24/7. We get a lot of attention and you know all the girls are down to rolll...

Hippie Jump.
The first footy I ever saw of you was on a Zip Zinger. What made you decide to film an entire part on a cruiser board?
Well I didin't try to film a part it just happend. My roommate Javi always knew how much I'm into the Gonz so he went out and got me a dope ass Zip Zinger. I was hurt at the time so I started filming a bunch of fun clips and it turn out to be a little video part... I could say skating a Zip Zinger is the funnest skateboarding ever.

Do you ride for 3043 Board Shop or describe that conection?
No actually I skate for MAINLINE skateshop. 3043 is a Trap house project. My roommate decided to open up a skateshop out in Southgate because there's nothing here. We all just help out in the shop when possible.
|
Ollie, Sunkin City.
Who do you hangout and skate with?
Oh man thats a hard question, I have soo many skater homies. The filmer I usually go out with is my roommate Jonathan Lopez he's super sick filmer. I chill alot with my boy Oscar Meza, Vincent Luevanos, Alex Valdez, Carlos Marquetti, and Matt Jackson. Were all really good homies its like a brother thing.

You recently went to San Francisco for the first time, how was that experience?
My homies all said SF is total Garibay spots, shit Im super down to skate. We went out and it rained each day we were there. Didn't get much filming in but bombing hills in the rain was amazing and Im heading back this month to get some real skating done.

Pole Jam.
You recently picked up a new sponsor, how does that feel and what else do you have coming up in the near future?
Yeah I got a lot on my plate right now so Im hyped. Kogi's bbq just picked me up and they're the best food in California literally the best. Got a Rip Clip for The Skateboard Mag website that'll show all these tricks. And this summer I got a trip planned for New York to skate with the Zooyork cats. Its been a dream of mine for a long time to go out and skate NY so I'm stoked for this year.
