Name, Date of birth, and Hometown?
Josh Stafford, May 5, 1991, discovered by the germans in 1904 they named it San Diego.
Who did you first start skating with and who do you find yourself skating with now a days?
I grew up skating with Alex and Brandon Perelson, Zack Dowdy, Tom Remillard, and a bunch of other Clairemont kids, running around bothering Navarrette, Peter Hewitt, Danny Mayer, Jake Brown, Neil Blender, Sam Hitz. All those guys are rad and stoked I still skate with just about all of them. Lately I've been making missions out to Ramona with Navarrette... Keeping the dream alive.
|
Backtail. Snatch Park.
A while back you were on Circa but now I see you wearing Vox. How did that transition come about and what are your thoughts with Vox footwear?
Yeah, Circa was really cool with hooking me up with shoes for the past 3 years or so. Things kind of just faded out and it was time for a change. Rune Glifberg was cool enough to hook me up with a couple pairs of cons until I figured something out. It's only been a couple weeks but Vox has been hooking me up and I'm super stoked on their
team, shoes, and everything. Just a cool family thing they got going on. They got a video coming out pretty soon that I'll have a couple tricks in hopefully. |
First year of college, hows things going? What school are you attending and what do you plan to study?
It's going pretty well I'm only going part time at SDSU as a graphic design major but it keeps me busy so it's pretty good I guess. I don't live on campus and most parties and stuff has to do with frats and contrary to popular belief vert jocks and frat boys aren't the same thing. I pretty much don't know very many people there.
|
Feeble. Death Box, Jamul.
You've accomplished the 540. When are you going to follow up with Alex's 900? Has he landed another one that you know of?
I think I can do it... It's just hard and pretty scary to spin and stop that fast. Alex seems to know what's up with it, but he's only done mute that I know of unless he's holding out on me.
Whats the craziest experience that you remember with him (Alex)?, You guys go way back.
Honestly, Alex has a way of instigating situations for his amusement. One time when we were fourteen our friend Annie (Sullivan) had driven us to McDonalds and on the way back, Alex and I gave the finger to someone in a random car. The guy wasn't too stoked and followed us back to the skatepark and started yelling at us, until Sam Hitz, Peter Hewitt, Navarrette, and Polarbear came to back a bunch of kids up... it was pretty funny watching the dude run away. Thanks Alex.
|
540. Ramona.
When you land the 900 will the boxers your wearing become your lucky pair or do you already have some picked out for the special occasion?
Maybe I'll frame them and put them up in my living room next to my roommates framed taylor swift cd. I don't know, I'll probly forget which ones I wear.
Invented any tricks yet or put a Stafford twist on any existing vert maneuver?
I don't really know, I've heard from a lot of people that an alley-oop andrecht hadn't been done before. I don't think I would personally ever put my name in a trick... Navarrette and Hewitt dubbed it the "Kittywhompus".
|
Andrecht. Carlsbad.
What keeps you so motivated and happy? It seems that you don't ever get bummed out, you always strike me as someone that never stops laughing.
I honestly don't really know, I have a pretty weird outlook on stuff sometimes, but for the most part skating is just so fun how could I not be motivated.
Your slightly unknown, but you have traveled the world a few times. Where are some of the crazies places you've been to?
Brazil, Barcelona, Rome, Berlin... Shanghai was crazy too, my cab rear-ended someone and told me to get out and run, then I got lost for a couple hours all alone, that was fun.
|
Fs Ollie. East County.
Do you still skate Clairmont a lot? You've put in hundreds of hours, maybe thousands skating that place. What's your best memory?
Discovering Wu-Tang Clan and landing my first 540 probably. Not to mention I've met a lot of my best friends at that park... It's my home away from home.
Do you still have that drawing that Grundy did of you without looking at the paper? He mentioned that one time, Whats up are you a artist?
NO WAY! I just saw that drawing around my mom's house the other day. That's rad he remembers that. I like to draw and I'm going to school in an art program so sure... I'm an artist I guess.
|
Bs Smith. Home Ave.
Your into tattoos, how do you feel about Rob Dyerdek's Monster back tattoo? Would you do it for the right price?
I mean I personally would NEVER get an energy drink logo tattooed on my body, but if he's down with that thats cool too.
Your a fan of Hardcore music . . . Whats your favorite band right now and spill your guilty pleasure?
I think this hardcore thing is gonna haunt me forever... haha. Right now I'm really into The Acacia Strain, but I'm always down with some Sade.
|
Switch Hurricane. Carlsbad.
How does it feel to be one of the hand full of young vert skaters?
I mean it's cool and all, I definitely wish there were more of them. Vert isn't quite dead.
Are you going to come to the T.C. Anniversary party on Jan 2nd at the Bread Bowl? You'd destroy that thing.
I haven't been there in so long, I'm down like a clown charlie brown.
|
Fakie Shuv Fs Pivot. Lemon Grove.
