Featured in Issue #9 of Typical Culture is The Kern Side D.I.Y. Story by Nick Martinez. Here’s a little video featuring the D.I.Y. located out in Bakersfeild, CA run and operated by skateboarders. Grab T.C. Issue #9 to check-out the article & photos.
Sometimes you go for it. You just say “Fuck it” regardless of all the consequences, pain, or disappointment. Ivery Turner has built these small and very fun D.I.Y. spots in Ocean Beach for years. So when he mentioned trying to build the Orchard St spot again it was no surprise to me.
Always rad to see these projects being supported. Assemble partners with Community Push to bring a DIY Skatepark to Detroit
I’ve been going on a lot of missions up north to skate with Al Brunelle in Santa Clairta, I’M not a big fan of LA, most of the time I hate it. Just because driving 2 hours spot to spot is not fun. Al has it dialed in pretty good though, he drives fast and knows what he wants.
Al in his natural habitat. There’s some epic D.I.Y. spots just about 10 minutes from his house, Guy Marino built most of them and kills all of them.
Jared Goulston, Bs Smithish.
Al’s homie Jared Goulston Fs Grinding this jersey, we went back a few days ago and it was all chipped up.
Dezort has been getting in on the session too, he’s living in LA now and he’s super stoked plus motivated to skate whatever is in front of him.
Always paving the way
Al and Drew figuring out the lines at this fun down hill ditch.

Skippy and the Irvine-Sucks crew made this rad DIY QP with a parking block on top, it didn’t last long because apartments are being built were they started building. Here’s what they put together!
Al Partanen and his crew head out to show you how to build and clean up DIY spots in these killer videos.
Yesterday was a blast at Route 44 Skate Shop, a special thanks goes out to Route & Gullwing Trucks for helping us put this event on. Always a blast BBQing with the boys and skating a one-time wallride set-up. Everyone was mashing tough, noticeably rippers & winners and taking home the cash was Dolan Stearns, Chris Coogan, Ricky Holderby, and Andrew Biernat. More video & photos coming soon. Brandon Greer already made a killer edit along with some visual stimuli from Brian Walnum. Thanks to everyone who came out to support local skateboarding!!
We teamed up with Dekline Footwear to make a D.I.Y. Instagram contest. Read here how to win a free pair of kicks and the newest copy of the zine!
